As travel around the world comes to a halt, tourism, recreation and conservation planning consultants, TRC Tourism, have reimagined tourism and reframed what they do. Their co-design approach to tourism has sustainability at its core and that’s where their path to net zero began.
We had a chat with Jo Davis, Business Manager, from TRC to talk about their experiences and journey to net zero emissions, here’s what she had to say.
What drove TRC Tourism to peruse Carbon Neutrality?
Becoming carbon neutral aligns with TRC Tourism’s values and our commitment to the Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs), our membership with Ecotourism Australia, the Global Sustainable Tourism Council’s (GSTC) principles and New Zealand Tourism Sustainability Commitment Goals.
What made Pathzero stand out over others that you researched?
Initially, we found the net zero journey confusing, time-consuming and very costly.
Pathzero stood out because it has been designed specifically with small and medium businesses in mind, it’s easy to use, cost effective and the money we pay for carbon offsets finances nominated environmental projects in Australia that align with our company values.
What feature/s of our platform was most appealing?
The Pathzero’s online calculator, is simple and easy to use. The option to report and purchase carbon offsets each month, instead of annually, makes the purchase price manageable.
The platform is very user friendly, reporting is quick and easy and it has also been a great way to visually show our carbon report which we have linked to our website.
Has your commitment to being a Carbon Neutral Company resulted in any changes to your business?
Yes, we have taken steps to make significant changes in our carbon footprint including:
- Purchasing a hybrid car for our Director
- Investing in using an online community engagement tool – social pin point, which means less travel needed to facilitate meetings or workshops
- Developing a sustainable procurement policy and procedures – supporting local and businesses who are also part of the net zero movement
- Supporting tourism businesses and destinations on their own ECO accreditation / Green Destination journey.
What would you say to someone considering using Pathzero?
Not enough is being done to combat climate change. We all need to take action and make investments for a sustainable low carbon future.
Everybody has a responsibility to do their part and this includes understanding your carbon footprint. Pathzero makes it simple and easy! Use their reporting as an incentive to be greener and more responsible and join the net zero movement!
Is there anything else we should know?
It’s also a bonus that the Pathzero team are a pleasure to deal with!
